Well, my '06 wagon is not stiffer in suspension than either of my '04s.
Not the Aero, or the Arc. (sedans)
And, both '04s are faster than the '06 (wagon). To me, there's no appreciable difference in performance between the '04 Arc and the '04 Aero. Was the '04 Arc re-programmed? I don't think so.
The primary advantages to the '06 is, the climate control system seems more durable (160K, nothing broken so far) and tire wear is much more even and gradual.
So, is it the fact that it is a wagon that upsets the analysis?
Btw the biggest change for '05 over '04 seems to me to be the deletion of the interior button release on the gas cap. Different wheels choices and fewer cars with heated rear seats and xenons; not much else.
