I suspect that it is speaker only - especially if you get all the other function messages. For my daughter's car it happened all at once - no sounds, but still the park assist warnings and other alerts.
Dash removal - I followed the FIX-MY-SAAB instructions (and I had the dash out of our 199 SAAB a couple times for replacing emergency flasher switch and dash light bulbs).
The basics didn't change too much - BUT you will need to remove the radio with its covered plugs. If I remember correctly, WIS actually says to 'wreck' the plugs covering the screws and replace with new ones =(.
The Plug Removal WORK-AROUND (from another web site) is to use a really aggressive duct tape to stick to the plugs and pull them out with that - it may take several tries. The first piece of tape might be partly stuck to loose dust and other debris, and once you get below that it will stick more firmly.
Search on "I broke my cupholder and have to replace it, but SAAB" to find a thread on another website.
Hope this helps,
Mark in Marine
P.S. Do you have WIS and/or other descriptions of R-and-R for the SID ? It's on the back of the instrument cluster, and I think you'll find it fairly easy once you have the display cluster out.
