The wise money is on UM/UIM

Most states only allow Uninsured Motorists limits not in excess of whatever your liability limits are. So, since this UM coverage is clearly always the best value for money you can get in auto coverage, and you want those UM/UIM limits super high, you have to spend money you may not want to on Liability coverage.
This means that even if in some cases, having or keeping Comprehensive (Busted windshields, hailstorms, flooding, falling trees) seems to still make sense and maybe even collision if you're in a tough area for collisions, that calculus doesn't govern what you do. You're going to be spending so much on UM/UIM and matching Liability and normally you've used up your whole budget on that - there's no money left for the actual car. You just pick up another one cheap - nobody dares to suggest these 9-5s are not crazy cheap. For the time being, the market is awash in them. Buy some extras if you have places to keep them where they're not too in the way.
