Greetings,

My son and I own a 2001 Saab 9-5 2.3 sedan for about 3 years or so now. The car has about 201K miles and well pampered by my son and I. Since we have owned this Saab and done numerous oil changes during the last 3 years or (5K oil change interval), we never countered any issues with the drain plug and we used new oil drain plug seal every 2 oil changes. However, this past weekend, when I went to loosen up the drain plug and noticed resistance to how it was coming lose...it was like having a stuck rubber seal to the thread or something like that. I managed to loosen the plug and when I looked at the end of the drain plug, I noticed there was a extra thread sleeve on the drain plug itself. I was able to unscrew the sleeve with ease....went in the house and looked it up, it was heli-coil that the previous or someone had used this technique to fixed the cross-threaded supposedly.

As of now, the car is down since I couldn't find the opening pitch so that I can buy the sav-a-thread kit to re-tap this drain hole. I was looking around for another used oil pan off a donor car locally since most that are on sale on ebay are brand new.

I am open for suggestions and recommendations. I would also like to know how hard would it be swapping out the oil pan & gasket? Any suggestions where I could buy an used oil pan would greatly appropriate as well!!

I am looking forward to hear back from you Saab's experts.

Thank you in advance!!

Harry
