Not difficult Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Tue, 6 Nov 2018 03:23:10 In Reply to: 04 Linear Exhaust Job, Sibelus, Mon, 5 Nov 2018 06:28:55 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I installed a SAAB-Remus cat-back system in my 2000 years ago. The only slightly difficult part was the lack of space beneath the rear of the car in which to work when the front of the car was up on ramps.
Plan ahead and it isn't too bad. IIRC I completely assembled the system in advance, slid it under the car from the rear, then used my floor jack to lift the rear of the system to correct height while I was under the car connecting the hangers prior to tightening the clamps.
One major trick that I forgot. Buy a set of Irwin "Bolt Grip" nut removing sockets, both the cased set and the expansion set. I had to borrow such a socket from my retired Cummins Diesel Mechanic neighbor when I did the SAAB-Remus. I since bought the set and expansion pack.
Rusted exhaust system nuts come off like butter with the right tool! Just remember to use the smallest socket that will fit. If both the 1/2-inch and 13mm sockets fit, use the 1/2-inch. Use of the 13mm might result in the socket slicing off all corners of the nut, leaving you in a difficult spot.
