New-to-me source for Oil Leak - Warped Oil Dipstick Cap Posted by Mark in Marine [Email] (#1837) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mark in Marine) on Sun, 2 Dec 2018 14:30:11 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The patient is a 2006 Sport Combi (Sport Pkg). I was trying to trace an oil leak on the right rear of the engine and the TC cover. I checked the oil pressure sender and the front crank seal - both were dry. I was hopeful it was not the junction of the block-head-TC cover which seems so common. I noticed there was oil on the top of the TC tensioner body, so I thought I would order up a tensioner seal and replace that along with the tensioner O-ring. (I did not see any sign of VC gasket leak.)
I received the seal Friday, and this afternoon my daughter brought the car out to me. I removed the vanity cover over the intake as I got ready to work – and I noticed there was oil on the flange of the oil filler. I cleaned this off when I first discovered the oil leak during snow tire install ten days ago, and my daughter had not added any oil since (just checked it once). When I looked more carefully, I saw an oil film on the fuel rail and the intake – all above the TC tensioner, of course. Examining the dipstick cap REALLY carefully I discovered that it’s WARPED ! This is the dipstick that came on the car when we bought it several years ago, and the cap has always been part yellow and part brown. There are no CEL’s and no drivablility issues, so I'm hoping that there’s no PCV or blow-by problem here. I have a new dipstick on order, and I’ll post back to tell whether a better seal on the oil filler cures the leak.
