MY CODE P1181 PROBLEM Posted by saabsince 93b [Email] (#972) [Profile/Gallery] (more from saabsince 93b) on Thu, 13 Dec 2018 09:38:36 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My wife's 2001 Aero wagon got a code P1181 a couple of times this month.
This is long term fuel trim AFR too lean. I guessed it was the MAF, so I ordered a new one and installed it.
While I was doing the repair I checked all the vacuum hoses for a potential leak. I found that the bottom hose on the boost pressure control valve was connected to nothing!!
This is the valve with the 3 black silicon hoses coming out of it at the front of the engine.
Big question was where does it go. I looked at the WIS and the EPC and concluded that it goes into the cold section of the turbo......but where?
I took off the heat shield and could not see a nipple down there. Next I took off the inlet hose to the right of the MAF.
I finally got out my USB endoscope camera and sure enough, there was the nipple way down there with a small piece of black silicon hose on it....with a torn off end.
I could not get to it from the top so I jacked up the car and put jack stands on it and got access from underneath. Needed long needle nose pliers to the the piece off. The nipple is above the subframe, and has limited space to work.
No matter what I did the old tube was not long enough to go back on. I had a piece of silicon hose in my stock so I added an extension and connected it to the old hose with a barbed brass fitting.
That seemed to fix the code. I checked the MAF required and the actual MAF on the open SID and everything was great.
I hope this helps someone who has this code. Check that the 3 hoses are hooked to something. The biggest problem I had was finding where the hose went.
I have no idea how and when it got torn off.
