OEM shocks as you have surmised become soft at around the 100-125k mark. The degree of softness varies from 40-80% loss of control.Wait till after new shocks to do alignment.
I have a 2001 9-5 Aero Wagon with the Koni FSD's They give superior control while driving very aggressively and a softer more comfortable ride than the original 9-5 Aero ride.
