While probably not necessary, for the cost there isn't a better diagnostic tool for '90s Saabs. Being able to read live sensor data, perform activation tests, and gain full access to all T5 DTCs is pretty valuable. When I converter my '85 SPG to T5, I found the Tech 2 was very useful to get everything dialed in before heading off to the smog referee. Although most of that stuff could be done with t5suite, the Tech 2 interface is certainly better suited to "casual" use.
My thought is that eventually there will be no market for clone Tech 2s and manufacturing will come to a close sooner rather than later, and I'd rather have one and not need it than need one and not have it. Plus, the second time you have a clock spring fail and need to reset your SRS light it paid for itself. As me how I know. :D
