Bolts are robust, but might not tighten well with rust . . . . Like KW and SWEDECAR said, subframe bolts are really robust. BUT one thing I have noticed when re-installing the bolts is that if the bolts and captive nuts are not well cleaned (in a road salt state like MN), the bolt can be torqued to spec, but it may not be tight. I have re-used bolts on three cars without problems EXCEPT for this issue. I 'cleaned' by lubing with WD40, running the bolts in and out, wiping dry, repeating another 2X, and then drying and using a very slight amount of anti-seize.
For a clunk without sloppy suspension, check carefully that all the rubber exhaust hangers are properly fitted and that the exhaust flex joint is not sagging / wearing out. Someone on another forum just experienced this fault and noticed it only after chasing all kinds of suspension and subframe possibilities for the clunk.
