My observations from working with my Chinese and other outside-US subsidiaries are that we often miss key elements of culture and how our economies interact.
My questions might be: Are the BAIC ignition cassettes the same as what are sold outside the country? If "OE" BAIC cassettes in-country were more expensive than aftermarket, they would never make it to our shores at the really 'cheap' price point. And consumer grade electronics don't see the underhood temps the DIC's experience. OR would lower miles per year and a different market/maintenance infrastructure stretch nine months of "US-normal" use into 'acceptable' range? What if the BAIC designs in a variety of ways managed to run lower underhood temps? I think it's an interesting technical whodunit - could be fun to be a fly-on-the-wall at a BAIC engineering meeting and hear answers to some of those questions!
Until then, I'll be more comfortable with my daughters running on SAAB-SEM DIC's. Just my two cents.
