Should I get an 08 to replace my 00? Posted by Mike Keller [Email] (#1926) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Keller) on Wed, 6 Mar 2019 19:41:10 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Currently have a 2000 manual wagon with 165k miles. 2nd owner, since 2005/33k miles. I’ve done a lot on it over the years - seems like everything except replacing the engine, transmission, and turbo (like PCV, brake booster, radiator, compressor, motor/transmission mounts, suspension, turbo hoses, oil switch, water pump, heater core, valve cover gasket etc - you get the picture). We love the car, but it spent its first 5 years outdoors in the Northeast and it's incredibly rusty underneath, especially compared to our 03 9-5 which has been almost exclusively a mid-atlantic car. The doglegs (on both cars) are terrible and getting worse despite annual scraping and painting. But I put a new ECU with 08 programming in the wagon and have been having some fun lately seeing how much pep I can give it.
I have the opportunity to buy an 08 9-5 wagon with 130-ish miles. Are the “newer” cars significantly different than the older ones? I notice the ‘08 doesn’t have the woodgrain around the stick and dash (who cares, right?) - what else is different?
It would be nice to have a car that’s not rusting away before my eyes, which is the main reason I'm interested in the 08 - but it’s also hard to imagine giving up my 2000. What should I be considering to help make the decision?
Thanks all.
