IIRC, held on by 3 screws and a wiring connector and you have to remove the plastic trim on the inside to access 2 screws and the wiring (same as doing the green rollers). If you remove the mirror you can still drive the car and you'll be able to sand/paint the edges better so you don't have to do it again. Do 1 mirror at a time.
Remove, tape off the mirror cover and scrape/sand thoroughly, compressed air to blow off dust, and I think I used acetone to clean before primer. I used Rustoleum "self etching primer" and "flat protective enamel" (black) rattle cans (spray paint) I got at Ace. 2-3 coats primer, wait 24 hours, sand smooth if necessary, 2-3 coats paint, wait 24 hours, sand/touch up as necessary and reinstall. I followed the directions on the cans for time between coats. I used a wire coat hanger to hang the mirror from.
First car I disassembled the mirror cover, you run the risk of breaking things, but you can sand the edges better. Second car I just taped off the covers.
