Same problem. On of our cars, I am still soaking them after 6 mo with penetrant since I couldn't remove them even with a cheap puller which started to bend. The motor noise could be debris or bad fan motor bearings. I have also read that a failing motor can sometimes be brought back to life by cleaning the stator? where the brushes contact. I have a used motor on deck which i will try if it doesnt seem like debris. The bearing go after a lengthy operational life. Some enthusiasts have eliminated squeaking by dropping some quality electric motor shaft lubricant in all the right places. Have that on deck too. Note that there is a risk of breaking the windshield if things go terribly wrong trying to remove the wiper arms. At least it's not as bad as a Volvo 240 - they were apparently built around the blower motor. I guess in Halifax where ours was assembled the first task was to take a blower motor and start adding parts to it. About 48 hours later, a new car came off the line.
