With standard halogen bulbs what is the expected life expectancy of your design? Consumers Reports have been doing some great work in this area when comparing new cars. One of the many reasons I went with a 240 Volvo many years ago were the large effective TV size headlamps. They were great! When brand new, I had people flash their lights at me thinking I had my high beams on! I don't like to blind drivers but I think it was because you did not see good low beams in that era and the 240 (again) broke into new ground in NA while actually being totally legal and appropriate. The high beams were spectacular - I still miss that car. Very easy to drive with great dynamics. The venerable red block 4 lasts forever but it was definitely underpowered so you had to have patience if you were following one. As a result it made be a very patient driver. For 2002+ 9-5 owners, I propose the most cost effective stock solution is to polish your plastic headlamps and use a slightly higher output bulb - I think the 55W instead of 50W albeit at reduced bulb life. I would argue you can leave the high beam bulbs at a stnd bulb due to the good reflector design?
