Er, NO we don't think the high beam should be left alone! OK lets say it does have a good reflector design? It cannot make up for a deficiency of power projected from it ! The issue to me is overdriving the lights and it's easily done at speed ! We like to cruise at 100MPH + on the deserted desert roads. The car is made for it ! You are correct, the Achilles heel of halogen bulbs is whilst they have great output at a K that is pretty pleasing to the human eye, they produce HEAT and have a relatively short life. That said ? They are still a good choice as they are CHEAP now ! Only a few $ a bulb, and In my 01' 9-5 they are easy to change - about one- two minutes each ! We keep spares in the car I'll put up w/ a limited life - it varies i've found ! Some will live for a surprisingly long time ! - ( For the brightest, look for the designation " For off road use only " ! The quality of the materials used - this is why it is recommended to use an original equipment manufacturer.
The type of bulb - i.e. longer life, maximum performance - see more info below.
Road conditions and engine vibration - modern driving conditions with pot-holes, speed bumps and traffic calming measures can increase vibration and reduce longevity.
