I knew that the window's internals were failing, but had to speak to a security guard at a local parking lot, and just instinctively hit the window switch without thinking. It powered itself down a bit, made a really loud noise, and fell of the track. It appears that the window is intact (maybe) and just sitting there, completely unattached to the door in any way.
I watched a YouTube video of how to replace the green rollers - that's a lot of disassembly of plastic bits in an almost 20-year-old vehicle. I'm mechanically inclined - I've done some electrical stuff (rewired the trunk harness, etc.) - but in no way am I a real wrench-turner. Do you think this is a repair that I could attempt? Is there any way to manually pull the window up into place and have it stay up temporarily?
Just for fun: my former indy did the same window many years ago in about 15 minutes while I sat and watched him. He made it look pretty easy!
