Last summer the water pump on my daughter's 9-5 SC suffered catastrophic pulley failure. The made-in-Spain pump body seemed fine, but the stamped pulley stress fractured all around the weld to the shaft. The new pump that I had on hand was a Meyle. When I ordered it, I thought it was German made, and there was no web site info on country of origin. But nope, made in China! The machining on that pump looks the best of any pump I've installed (Seven now in four 9-5's, but mostly because of leaking block O-rings). It's been running great for about 6500 miles so far, and I have another one in my other daughter's car. We'll see.
Parts from any country CAN be good, but proper specifications and quality control have to be in place. Wish we could know when the cost-cutting affected quality and when it didn't =).
