2006 - 2009 Fuel Pump retaining ring loosen/tighten in car ? Posted by Mark in Marine [Email] (#1837) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mark in Marine) on Sun, 7 Apr 2019 17:57:11 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
While there is quite a lot of info on fuel pump replacement in general, I haven't seen my particular question.
I have replaced one fuel pump for my daughter on her 2006 SC. If/when I do the same job for my other daughter who has a similar 9-5 SC, I would like to know: Have any mechanics loosened or tightened the later GM-style retaining rings with the tank in the car? (not pump removal, just loosening and tightening the ring).
I cannot recall (did not take photos) whether there is even enough clearance to fit the tool, but I do remember how hard it was to apply enough torque to the sealing ring and hold the tank in place while outside the car. I was working alone and I needed both legs to brace the tank against a garage wall and twist really hard on my 20-inch 1/2" drive breaker bar. If the tank were held firmly in the car, AND one had enough room to use the breaker bar it might be an easier task. I would still expect to lower the tank to remove the pump and install the new one with the rigid fuel and evap lines.
Thanks in advance !
