The reason they put in shims in the rear is because the rear springs sagged and the camber is too much and the toe in also increases.
the cause of this reduced ride height which makes the suspension move up and the 3 link suspension is designed to increase to and camber. It is supposed to do this in a turn. When the springs sag it does it ALL THE TIME.
The real way to cure this is to havfactory ride height at the rear. 610mm for sport supension and 17" wheels, and 620mm for 16" wheels.
Shims are the wrong way to go 95% of the time. Spring spacers that bring the ride height back up to factory spec corrects both camber and toe in.
Too much toe in will result in tire "cupping" in the rear and they start to sound like snow tires.
You could replace springs, but they would probably sag in a few months anyway. Spring spacers are the way to to. Aluminum spacers that fit at the bottom of the spring. They come in 3 heights.
