I literally just did this job yesterday on my '06, and did it completely from above. I removed the following:
- intake pipe that connects to the throttle body: to do this, I disconnected the pipe from the turbo, the intercooler hose at the bottom, and the bolt that holds the mount to the engine block near the DIC connector. This also frees up space to get to the electrical connector (still not easy, but easier)
- remove exhaust manifold heat shield
With all that out of the way, the T-30 was relatively easy to access using a swivel-head ratchet (harbor freight has a pretty decent one). I used a spark plug wire boot pliers (remember when cars used to have plug wires and plug boots and not DICs?) to grab onto the end of the old CPS and rotate it slightly enough to get it loose, then it just pulled right out--including the o-ring.
If I'd had other things to do under the car, I'd probably have tried to access from there, but I didn't, so I didn't.
