It's a Royal PITA to deal with starter and positive battery cable on the V6, and I have the luxury of having the car up in the air.
Finding the two secret bolts that holds the bracket to PCV box and snake out the oil pressure wire from behind the alternator and snake out the other harness from the front of engine is no fun job.
The complete cable is hard to find nowadays and there are two different ones depending on year. If the problem is only an overheated lug ring at alternator, I go in with a Sawzall and cut off the cable after starter lugring, insulate the end and then manufacture a jumper piece of cable between the starter post and alternator post just like all the classic 900 had it from factory.
