So today I went to my local Car Audio dealer which
I know well. He sells Alpine Car Stereo systems.
We looked for wires for the 2 rear speakers of the AS2
system in the 9-5, didn't find any, I thought I had seen
some, but there are none around.
I asked him for his opinion... and he told me the following.
1) Car manufacturers are trying to make life hard for
people that wish to upgrade their sound systems, they
do this so that when these people buy the same car brand
again they order the top of the line sound systen.
2) He said he would not recommend installing an additional
amplifier which was not from SAAB. He said that if it was
possible the mount the SAAB amp. for the 8/9 speaker system
that should be done. Pulling a couple of wires to the rear
would be no problem. Mounting an additional amp. was problematic
as it could interfere with some other systems which only SAAB
knows.
3) Should it not be possible to upgrade the amp. he said that
best thing to do would be to get the sizes of the 7 speakers
in the AS2 system, to order good speakers from a good Car Stereo
Brand and to have you SAAB dealer install these. HE added that
most car manufaturers try to save every peny so they mount rather
crapy speakers. ( I have to agree with him on this )
I will ask my SAAB dealer about the possible change of the Amp. should
that not be possible, I will look into replacing all speakers with
Alpine versions.
Regards,
Coolknight
