Since I narrowed my selection to the same 2 cars, I thought I might have something to offer. But in truth, my choice was an emotional one--I've waited 15 years for Saab to come out with a car I could love and trust as much as my old 99's (I had 3 of those). I did justify the choice to my rational side on the basis of safety, seat comfort, automotive reviews, my sons' approval, and the availability of a manual transmission. Also, since the same dealer could have sold me either car, I asked the salesman his "honest" opinion. After hedging a bit, he said the Saab is "a lot more car for the money; in a different class altogether." A cynic would say this means the margins are better on the Saab. All I know is, I'm very happy with my choice, and I smile to myself every time I pass one of those clunky-looking Passats. But as for your wife, you shouldn't "talk her into" anything; it's her car and her choice.
