Negatory.
Both my wife and I almost always use the manual mode in her Audi A4 Tip. The only times either of us stick it in "D" is when we are stuck in crawling, stop and go traffic.
The main reason we picked the Tip is that it gives us better control of the car in all situations than a regular automatic. It allows proper gear selection when entering a turn, and downshifting on hills and during braking. It lets you drop a gear before passing and in general connects you more closely to the operation of the car. You become fully involved, rather than merely working the gas pedal.
She has a bad left knee and had to have clutchless shifting. Short of surgically replacing her knee and getting a manual tranny, this is as good as it gets for her. I tolerate the tranny - I would still rather have a manual. As far as driving with a regular automatic - phhhhhtttt!
