As a practical manner, the torque in the lower gears in both the 200 hP V-6 SE( or ARC since 2002), and the Aero are about equal, so there is not much difference if you hammer either one off the line.On the highway though, the Aero is quicker, where the extra 50 HP and the additional torque come through. As to drivability, the V-6 is smoother than the 2.3 liter four in the Aero, but also has a pretty loud intake roar when you accelerate. Fuel economy is pretty close in both, but possibly a little berret in the Arc-SE V-6. Not sure why, but I drive a 2002 Aero and get about 31-32 on the highway, and have seen slightly more in a loaner V-6.
You will notice that when you turn the Aero, you are not pushing around as much engine weight, so transient response is superior in the Aero.( It also has low profile high performance tires that help this).
I think you will undoubtedly read additional posts here that will caution you that you can only get the V-6 with the five speed automatic gearbox. Big deal. It's a great gearbox anyway, so unless you insist on doing your own shifting, what's the problem.
by the way, the issue of longevity and stress( which I assume you are thinking about specific output of both engines) is largely a theoretical issue better debated by the resident oil freaks on the board. Either engine, with manufacturer's suggested maintenance and service, should easily last the length of the rest of the car. Having an engine last 400,000 miles when the body and interior are beat at 250,000 does nothing for me. Usually, a car is technologically obsolete today in about 5-7 years anyway, so both of these models will have been replaced by a newer model if you get one today and drive it 50,000 miles a year. I suggest a test drive in both to decide. You might like the slightly more comfortable and refined ride of the Arc over the additional highway acceleration of the Aero after trying both. Good luck.
