I have to admit that I haven't checked this but isn't the fan motor and thus fan blade on the downstream side of the air filter?? If this is the case how would a leaf get there? I had this problem on my pickup when the A/C pump was running from time to time, mine ticked when the outside temp was cold and the dealer ended up replacing the pump since a bearing was going (after the vehical was warm, it quit ticking).
