I just towed/hauled 1500+ pounds with my 9-7 5.3i. It was my first time towing anything that heavy and it was remarkably easy. Assuming you have the tow package, the 4.2 doesn't have that much less power than the 5.3; only 15 less hp I believe. The 5.3 has more torque; 276 ft.lbs. vs. 330 ft.lbs. But 285 hp/276 ft.lbs. should be plenty to haul what I assume is a normal-sized (i.e. under 2500 pound) camper.
