Watershed year for 10% ethanol tolerance? Posted by mag [Email] (#1906) [Profile/Gallery] (more from mag) on Fri, 10 Jul 2009 14:59:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Was there a watershed year for C900 and 10% ethanol tolerance? What is your experience with component rot and common gasohol?
I'm trying to get a handle on ethanol tolerance by year.
I've seen second hand references to the US requiring that vehicles from 1986 onward be tolerant of 10% ethanol, but certified results were not required until 1988 models. This applied across the industry.
The Volvo boards say bricks weren't very tolerant until 1988, when they adopted L-Jetronic (LH2.2).
My guess (no data) is that 900 16V used better materials sooner than 8V.
Another guess is that 1986 16V (LH2.2) is on the tolerant side of the watershed. That's what I drive, and I've had no fuel problems other than non-bouyant fuel senders and a reduced mileage with California gas. But long life for pumps, and no melted lines. Does it get better after 1986? Was 1985 worse?
