just make sure you probe the pins on the diagnostic plug with a voltmeter first--- pin 1 is battery +12V, pin 3 is starter solenoid. But pin 5 goes to the ignition control unit and/or amplifier output, and it's possible to zap those if you apply 12 V directly (ask me how I know this). It's easy to confuse pins 3 & 5 when you reference the schematic in Bentley and you are trying to decide if it reads from the top looking down at the connector, or from underneath.
You can buy a nifty pistol-grip trigger switch at Pepboys for a few dollars, this makes it very easy to fine-control bumping the starter...
