I thing you'd agree here that for the 1st timer it's better to start working with some dark color (like that gray one) rather then the lighter one (like tan or white or a such).
I wish I had that tan carpet at the shop when I went shopping, but I'm sure that I'd be blaming myself all the way to the bones after I had that project completed - it was the 1st attempt of mine.
The photo below shows what it was like in the beginning and the link goes to the final result (sorry I had to use the flash for the latter since it was quite the midnight).
