I've had a problem with an intermittent no-start on my 88 SPG for a few months now. Every occurrence so far has been on a cold-start. I turn the key, the engine acts like it is going to fire then stops. After this the engine will crank but not start.
I took it to a local Saab mechanic who reported when the no-start occurs the fuel injectors were not getting a signal to fire. The problem was so intermittent it was difficult to diagnose. He tried swapping the ECU when he experienced a no-start, and the car started. But when he immediately hooked up the original ECU the car also started.
I've read several related posts here, and some pointed to the ICU as a potential source of the problem. Since these are fairly cheap I ordered one from eEuroparts. The car started fine for over 3 weeks (woohoo!), but yesterday morning when I attempted to drive to work the same thing happened again (doh!). The car started to crank and fire, died, then on subsequent attempts the car cranked fine but never started. When I got back from work that evening I tried again and the car started immediately.
Is it time to just bite the bullet and source another ECU?
