Love this board and thought to put this out there-
Due to a classic case of saab attachment, I have been hanging on to 2 non functioning 900's (an 86 turbo 3 door- needing a clutch and suffering from rust and a 92 S 3 door that was my daily driver until this fall when the gearbox failed- I think- and will need a transmission).
I now have a 9000 as my daily driver. The 92 has a nearly perfect body so I am reluctant to junk it. I want to find someone to take it and keep it on the road, or perhaps hang on to it and work on next summer when I might have some money to put into it so it could live on. (the 86 might be too far gone...)
So one question is for the short term- all the oil drained out of the crankcase when the gearbox went and now the car is sitting out under a new England winter. Will it be harmful to store it with no oil in it? I am worried about it- that if and when I can get the transmission replaced the engine will be worse off for having sat for 6+ months with no oil in it.
any suggestions? I feel I should cut my losses, get rid of the cars and move on but that is not easy because I am on an island...and the old 900 is such a classic I feel guilty about sending another couple to the grave...
thanks for any feedback on this conundrum
Matt
