If you don't drive it often, get a trickle charger. I've had my Mom's 1990 900S on a trickle charger for over 10 years now, and I'm pretty sure, on the SAME battery. This one is a sealed brick that is mounted at the battery, and I ran a 110v extension along the crossmember to the opposite corner light, where the business end of the extension pokes out. Plug the car in with an extension when it's not being used (which is most of the time now...), and the battery stays perfectly charged, even for weeks through Maine winters.
I did the same for my 1986 CV, and may need to do it for my 9-5, if I forget to drive it...
The link (and image) is to a battery charger exactly like the one I use. I bought mine at WalMart, but I think Amazon carries these now (Click Link.
