I'm rebuilding a motor with 178K miles on it. No issues with the water pump, but I figured it might be a good idea to replace it while the motor is apart. Anyone have any recommendations on brand? I see a lot of inexpensive ones out there (including from Beck Arnley and Bosch) but was wondering if they are any good. I can get an OEM LASO WP for around $75 but would rather put the money elsewhere if the lesser-priced pumps will do.
I've also got an OEM pump with around 100K on it that I could use. Is there a magic mileage number when these usually fail? The car that it's going into will only be driven about 2K miles a year.
