It's a long gone era for me but they were very crucial at the time when we saw more of those early 16V engines and replaced valve cover gaskets on them.
That oil rail was used up until about 87.
It's over 10 years since I installed a kit. I think I have 2 or 3 kits left since they were included in the Elring headgasket set 8819823 which fit 88 and up as well so I just kept the nipple kit when using the head gasket on newer 900/9000.
But they are a must and no real easy way to substitute when one is broken.
