I think it could be an issue with the RCA line out. My front speakers use speaker level connections to the amp, but my rear speakers use a rca patch cable. It's just the rear that have the problem and the sound goes away when I unplug the RCA cable from the amp.
I heard some older headunits have a ground issue with the preouts and some people add an extra ground directly to the RCA negative lead.
