Air Conditioning help? Please! (long) Posted by vsfoxe [Email] (#1025) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vsfoxe) on Tue, 5 Aug 2014 15:21:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
What is the purpose of the "Suppression Diode" in the wiring harness near the compressor, at the firewall end of the valve cover? If I supply 12 volts to the compressor, nice R12 air conditioning is available. If I short the switch on the receiver drier it's cold, if I supply 12 volts to the A/C dash switch pin 7 or 8 it's cold, if I supply 12 volts to the coolant overheat switch in the hose it's cold. I haven't figured out how to access the anti-freezing unit yet, but it's certainly not accessible by going in the bellows by the passengers firewall! I guess I'll have to remove the bolster again. Is it in there? The system was running fine but low on Freon, so I had the compressor replaced (used). It ran 15-20 minutes nicely, then the clutch would no longer engage. A new receiver-drier was added during the maintenance. So - what does that diode do? Does it "clamp" the voltage to a certain voltage, or what? TIA! Vern
