I would look at the passenger side first. You can pull both bolts out of the top ball joint, then pull the ball joint outward and slide the bolt into the inboard ball joint hole on the outboard A arm hole. So, it sticks out -- then, pull both bolts out of the bottom ball joint ( and the tie rod ) and you can pull the axle out. Of course, you have already loosened the clamp on the inner driver, and the nut is off the axle.
I think what you will find is a dry inner driver joint that has been damaged by the tripod. I say all this simply because the heat affected zone is on the passenger side, and it probably got hot and dry.
It might be so bad you need another inner driver and swapping them won't help. Make sure you don't pull both of the inners out at the same time. Do one side at a time.....which makes it a hard thing to do if you are swapping them.
