Autobody tech for 38 years. Here's the scoop; Remove all the old glue/adhesive off of the back of your moldings. Go to your local bodyshop supply house in your area and buy the 3m double sided white tape if they have it. (The black fails more frequently on heavy moldings like ours). Ask them if they will sell you a few packets of the adhesion promoter wipes. They come in a package like a pre-moistened towelette. These are very important to creating good adhesion to the backside of the original moldings. Once they've been wiped liberally where the new tape will go, give it a few minutes to dry. Apply your new two sided 3M tape. Leave the orange backing tape on them, Now I'm sure even if all mouldings are off the car, there will be a slight mark where they used to live for the last 20 years. Take a roll of 3/4" masking tape and stick it down on the exact line where you can see the molding was on the front fender. Stick down about two inches or so. Then slowly rolling the tape out, walk towards the back of the car. Now that you are at the rear quarter panel, get down on your knees and sight up a straight line with the tape, (holding it taunt). Stick it where the old molding shadow is on the quarter panel. It may take a few, "lay downs, lift ups, and re-sticks before you get that nice straight line. Now stand back from the car and size up your line. Does it look straight? Does it look level? If not, correct accordingly. Now go lightly over the length of tape and gently tap it down over it's length to secure it. Go look on the other side of the car to see how much end gap space is at the end of each molding and the end of the panel, (usually 1/8-1/4"). With that measurement in mind, go back to your side that you're doing the install and just touch down the end of the molding at one end of the door or the other and slowly lay the molding down along your already established tape line. Go slow and follow the tape line, just touching the molding down enough to stay in place. Once it is satisfactory, press it down, going back and forth. The tape on the moldings is pressure sensitive. Pressure is important to long term success! Once you have all three moldings back on the car, remove the masking tape and admire your work....Cheers, Bob
