Nope, did not have it checked before installation. This was a new rebuilt unit in a Bosch box with warranty from eeuro, and my understanding was that they are tested before they left the factory. Maybe I should have?
Swapped batteries today, same result.
Voltage between D+ and B+ is tiny, well under 0.7V (more like 0.03V), but alternator output is 12V, not even close to 14V, so the battery gets depleted. Alt chassis to block is 0.00V, block to battery - is 0.00V...
Battery light comes on at startup like it should. Belts are good, all is spinning fine.
This car has always taken 3-4 cranks to start (for at least a decade anyway). The other 900 starts first crank every time. Not sure why the difference...
so it looks like I will need to dig a little deeper here...
I could easily get the old alternator tested - of course I'd rather not dig out the new alternator again unless I was pretty certain I needed to!
I wonder if there is some kind of excessive load somewhere with the car running... would have to be crazy bad though to result in a 2V voltage drop...
thanks for all the suggestions!
