Fragile side mirrors!! Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Thu, 27 Oct 2016 10:50:26 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
This is kind of a warning/tip thing... at this point, our side view mirrors are aging enough that the metal hinge that allows them to fold has probably corroded significantly... or at least, that seems to be the case up here in the salt belt... such that any sort of force, eg normal folding operation of the mirror, bumping into the mirror in the garage, etc etc... results in the hinge breaking... I just went to the pick-n-pull at lunch today to grab one to replace the last one I broke... and while removing it, the one I was removing broke! That's the 3rd broken c900 mirror for me in 1 year... how many years of bad luck am I in for??
I'm pretty sure you can't order new ones at this point, so used is the way to go, but maybe from southern cars is better!
I will try to post a photo if I get a chance to take one later.
BTW, thanks to saabnet and oldsaab's tip to remove the mirror... yeah, the bit with the pin has been covered (push the center through, it drops, no worries, replace the pin with something else if you can't find it)... then it is 2 T25 bolts... should be easy... not really - they stick on... the great tip was to only remove the lower bolt 2/3's of the way... then whack the bolt with something (screwdriver end, hammer, etc.) and it will loosen the seal. Then it is easy.
I'm going to see if I can repair the hinge. I now have 3 of these broken mirrors to play with!
Here is the link to oldsaab's excellent post re removing the mirror (could not find any info in the bentley):
