There is a good chance that the little pump to fill the basket has gone south.
This time of year ( thinking you might be in a cold climate ) wouldn't point to the ignition amp overheating, but it might be failing or the hall sensor in behind the crank pulley is challenged.
But, since the pump was replaced before, and no mention of the little lift pump, then that is suspect to me. It could be as simple as when the mechanic did the fuel pump repairs, the return line wasn't properly connected back so the basket would fill to give the pump something to pull from.
But, I always start at the basics, and the main fuel filter needs to be eliminated from the diagnosis scenario. I think Simon S mentioned that as well....
Another diagnostic tool would be to carry a can of keyboard air ( something cold ) to spray on the iggy amp just to see if it's overheated and then returns to a more normal operation.
