That is the key word in your post and probably why it is only $2k... it is a 3 speed, and it is kind of fragile - needs good care and feeding or it may now be in rough shape. But also, these are old cars now so many little things to update due to wear also makes them only appeal to those who like them a lot... prices are therefore variable.
It is a shame the automatic didn't have a 4th gear as that affects its highway performance... other than that, with careful maintenance, it can be an enjoyable car. Of course most people here would convert it to a stick and if you are so inclined, the info is on this bb in many threads (common topic).
Other than rust and tranny, these cars are pretty easy to keep on the road if you are resourceful. 1993 has abs which may be an issue if things fail, but can be "downgraded" to pre-abs brakes worst case. The tops on verts are another potentially costly repair... basically this stuff affects valuation, that's all... up here, rust is the enemy so very few 900's are left on the roads. Southern cars are worth keeping going, trust me!
do check under the carpets for rust also (eg due to roof leak, or corroded brake lines) water trapped in the sound proofing can do damage there, but in sunny California, it's much less of a worry!
