Interior rear wheel well rust and POR-15 Posted by Devin [Email] (#2469) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Devin) on Thu, 16 Feb 2017 09:02:50 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Dear All:
I blew out my sunroof drains this past fall. I found what looked like compost, a bunch of crud, a quart or so of water, and most of an intact acorn.
Upon further inspection, there's a quarter sized rust hole on the inside of the driver's-side wheel well, and the typical rust bubble under the trim piece on the lip.
I know that the proper repair will involve new sheet metal eventually. But what's the im-poper repair that I can do in the meantime to arrest further damage?
I've got the POR-15 starter kit and I thought about squirting either the Eastwood internal frame coating or the Eastwood heavy duty anti-rust into the hole before I cover it with the POR-15 epoxy.
If I pull the carpet in the rear can I get access from above?
I've got one more question about the POR-15. There's some surface rust on the tops of the front wheel wells inside the engine bay. Will the POR-15 adhere to the old paint once I've used the degreaser and the prep in the kit? Or is there another product that's better if you're not dealing with bare metal or sold rust?
Thanks
Devin
