Yeah, you could do that but if some aggro police officer asked you to pop your hood you could end up with a big fine and/or no car. It's unlikely, but just not worth the risk IMHO. That's why I really want to finish the process before SOC - T5-ing the car is no big deal, but I don't want to end up in Pomona with an angry CHP officer and no car. (Goes double on the SPG, as the front plate was missing when I bought the car, I don't want to lose the "vintage" sunrise plate, and that's already an invite for a traffic stop!)
But, also, the point of doing this is not having to worry about Hall-Effect sensors, LH computers, air mass meters, etc. any more ever again. Once that stuff is gone I can purge the parts hoard and just have a working car that passes smog every time. :)
I put another call request into the DMV this morning. Hopefully the ref actually calls this time. I was happy to find out they keep a record of these requests, so at some point I can probably say, "Look, I tried!"
