I think Justin nailed it. The brake booster losing vacuum and the base boost problem may be related. Seems logical anyway. These old cars are kind of give and take. I was following my brother in his Westy on the interstate and decided to show off and do a full turbo pass. For some unknown reason the boost went all the way to end of the red ('88 SPG) and about snapped our necks. I had to back off when the clutch started slipping. It sure had never boosted anywhere close to that before and hasn't since. So you never know.
