The metal that runs along the door sill is brake line. As far as I know, the nylon fuel lines continue all the way back to the pump, under the carpet.
I think this is great. Chevy trucks and 90s Hondas (and SAAB 9000 cars) use steel fuel lines all the way from tank to near the engine. I have changed them way too many times due to New England rust. Lately when I have to fix a leak on old GM or Honda, I will swap the entire thing out for injection-rated high pressure rubber hose. The only other cars I've seen with the nice nylon hoses inside the car are old Lotus Elans. Guess what! They never have problems with fuel line rust either!
If I were you, I would cut the nylon tubing back from the fuel rail banjo until you have good tubing. Then take a brass barb connection (available at hardware store) or length of copper tubing the right size to just press-fit into the nylon tube, press it into the tubing, and then hose clamp some high pressure rubber injection hose around the whole mess. Use two hose clamps, it will pass inspection. Then hose clamp this onto the banjo bolt barb. You will not have to replace long lengths of fuel line and it will be quickly and easily done. Nobody will notice unless you enter your car into a concours d'élégance.
