Spring Tire Fever Posted by blacksheep [Email] (#301) [Profile/Gallery] (more from blacksheep) on Sun, 7 May 2017 23:05:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Blacksheep's suspension modifications are finally complete and it is time for new tires. For reference, Blacksheep is a 1993 900 Turbo CE, with factory installed SPG-equivalent lowered suspension (but no flares), Koni reds, 9000 front brake package, full suspension re-bushing, relocated rear axle, adjustable Panhard bar, currently running 195/60-15 Yokohama Envigors on 15x6 9000 Cross Spoke rims.
While my driving style is less aggressive than it used to be, living in Utah still means dealing with twisty canyon roads, steep mountain passes, and long stretches of 80mph speed limit freeway.
Given the dearth of choices in the performance range (basically Yokohama and Sumitomo) I'm starting to consider the option of a grand touring tire. I've made 2 1000+ trips in the last month, so perhaps a touring tire is not an unreasonable choice. I'd appreciate hearing your experiences in the matter.
I am also considering going to a 205/60-15, not so much for the increased width as the larger diameter. I am aware of the potential clearance issues. There is no spring sag, arch clearance is good front and rear, and even side to side. I believe the axle relocation and Panhard bar will alleviate the issues associated with the rear end. Again, your thoughts are aprreciated.
Thanks in advance.
