Excellent diagnosis Dr.s, Vern and RS! Followed the vac hose back to intake nipple, found that it split after leaving the intake. One went to the hooter valve, one went to a cadmium plated metal canister that mounts under the intake, which doesn't exist on my '88. The hose that led to the canister thing under the intake had fallen off and was robbing obviously both the hooter valve and the canister thing of vacuum. Hose looked older, so I replaced with new. Sucked on hooter valve hose and it holds vacuum, thereby proving that was operating properly. Didn't take the car for a drive yet, but it certainly seems that should be the fix! As a side note, vacuum lines are the first thing I usually look for when any of my SAABs act a bit odd. This one snuck by me! What the heck is that canister looking thing under the intake that I've mentioned? Just curious. Thanks again guys for the info. Saabnet saves the day again! Cheers, Bob
